NEWS: Can you help with a research project?

We have received this mail in the meet mailbox and wonder if any ladies out there can help....

My name is Rosalind Hall, I am trainee on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Sheffield.  For my thesis I am conducting a research project into the way that how women think and feel changes during the menstrual cycle.  For this project I need to recruit a large number of females to take part in an online questionnaire.

I am therefore contacting you to ask for your assistance in recruiting participants. I know that your network is aimed at business women, so I hope that you don't mind me contacting you.  I need to recruit quite a large number of women, so your help would be greatly appreciated, either through a post on your website, newsletter, or if you have any meetings I might be able to attend to speak directly to your members.

Anyone who opted into the study would be asked to complete a short online questionnaire four times over consecutive weeks.

I am happy to provide more information to you as  required, if you have any questions I am contactable at this email address.  The study has full ethical approval from the University of Sheffield ethics sub-committee, and participants would be free to leave the study at any time.  Please contact Rosalind on pcp08rh@sheffield.ac.uk if you are able to help.

NEWS: Business Link help to Build a Better Business

Here are details of a great new support service that Business Link is starting in the East Riding for small businesses. The package is packed with loads of useful support worth at least £500 (its free to applicants that secure a place on the programme). We have some places available at the workshop which starts on 22 July 2010 at Beverley Conference Centre. Please apply by contacting Andrea Chew at a.chew@businesslinkyorkshire.co.uk.

This is one of the most intriguing training sessions I have ever seen and amongst other things will reveal the secrets to the following tantalising business practices:

  • How creating a destination business will help you sell more
  • A quick tip for increasing sales up to 30%
  • How aiming to lose…can help you win!
  • How dividing your market really does help you conqueror it
  • Why do-it-yourself can be bad for business health
  • Why some firms do well in a downturn and others don’t

NEWS: Daytime Women's Networking Group

As one of a small group of mixed business women who would like to get together and chat informally with other like minds, we have organised a series of get together where you can grab a cuppa and a bite to eat and chew over the thoughts of the day with someone who may understand your challenges and be experiencing the same as you.
The first and second meet ups are being held at Townhouse Cafe on Priory Park West 10.30 - 12 Noon on June 22 and July 21. They serve great coffee and snacks and their prices are really reasonable, their web site says it all really. Have a look at www.townhousecafe.co.uk it is all very nice.
There is no charge - just pay for your own refreshments. You will be guaranteed to meet someone you like and can probably pick up a hint or two about your business. The invite is open to any business woman or woman looking to start up in business or any employed or unemployed woman looking to work up the career ladder, so please feel free to circulate this to your friends. Please drop an email to lynne.gale@galeconsultingco.uk if you intend to join in so we can get an idea of numbers.
Hope to see you there.

NEWS: Appeal for Business Mentors?

meet! have been contacted by the University of Hull who are looking for mentors and mentees for its 'Works for You' project.

The project aims to match up people with ‘higher-level’ skills who have been adversely affected by the recession (the mentees) with a mentor from the business world.  The mentees have to already be qualified to diploma, degree or equivalent level, and the mentoring is voluntary (ie. not a paid role) but only requires a commitment of 1 or 2 hours a week.

If you're interested, you can download the attached flyer and application form, or contact Gill Sinclair on 01482 463273.

NEWS: WANT TO APPEAR ON BBC TELEVISION?!?

meet! have been contacted by the makers of The Apprentice and Grand Designs (Talkback Thames) who are making a new factual programme for BBC2 and are looking for couples who might be interested to take part.

Is your partner convinced they're pulling their weight but really they're more of a light-weight when it comes to helping out?  Do you crave more of a equal split?  Talkback are looking for people who would like to find out just WHO DOES WHAT in their relationship and make changes for the better.  It's a show for every couple that's ever argued over who does the washing up, picks up the kids or does the shopping.

If you would like to take part or want to know more, call Sarah on the WHO DOES WHAT hotline  - 0207 861 8477 - or email whodoeswhat@talkbackthames.tv

NEWS: VOLUNTEER Business Advisors needed for Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is a national educational charity, supported by volunteers from the local business community. Founded in 1963 our aim is to encourage young people between the ages of 4 and 25 to develop the skills and attitudes required for enterprise, personal success, lifelong learning and employability. As you may already be aware, the Humber sub-region is currently a Young Enterprise hotspot and we are experiencing tremendous popularity and growth as well as lots of good publicity.

So why get involved? Well amongst other things, Young Enterprise is a super personal development tool, an innovative way to put something back into your community or simply a demonstration of your company’s corporate social responsibility. Our activities and materials are fun and inspirational and you will receive full training on whichever programme you wish to be involved with, whether in a primary school, secondary school or a college. If you would like to know more, we’d be delighted to talk you through the various volunteering options open to you.

Please contact me by phone or email if you would like to know more about our programmes and planned activities in the Hull & East Riding area. I look forward to hearing from you soon - Janet Brumby, Tel 07961 585942 or Email janet.brumby@yeyh.org.uk - see www.yeyh.org.uk
